A comedian and TikToker from Eenhana, with over two million likes and over 100 000 followers on TikTok, is reaching out to event organisers and businesses to book him so he can continue creating content.

Patrick Hinamwaami (25), known as Patrick-Lela, says while his audience keeps growing, financial challenges are slowing him down.

“My followers love my content, but it is not easy to continue creating without income,” he says. “I am appealing to be booked at shows and events so I can support myself and improve my work.”

Patrick-Lela creates comedy skits on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube daily.

He told The Namibian this week that he was inspired by former Oshiwambo comedians such as Ndjeke YaMalimba and Makiti, whose short films motivated him to take up comedy seriously.

“But for me, since I was young, I always had this talent. I used to perform dramas during my school days,” he said.

According to him, his primary objective with his skits is to make people laugh and reduce stress among the community and his followers. His work also highlights social issues facing the country, for example, gender-based violence (GBV), alcohol abuse and a lack of respect for the elderly.

“I want people to laugh, but also to learn something,” he said.

One of his most popular videos, ‘Eebashu Naditye Kumwe’ (‘Shacks Must Be Divide’), addresses the growing number of informal settlements in the country. The skit attracted strong engagement and sparked conversations online.

Patrick-Lela said he also participates in GBV awareness campaigns and does advertising for local businesses, private schools and corporate companies to earn extra income.

“With the comments I get, I realised that the nation loves my content. People always ask me when I will post new videos,” he said. “Sometimes they even suggest what I should talk about.”

He said, however, he still faces criticism and insults online, along with technical challenges.

“I produce my videos using a phone, and sometimes the quality is not good,” he said. “But that does not stop me. I always ask my followers to continue supporting me.”

Patrick-Lela works closely with fellow comedians such as Ndemutyavela, Nuutoye and Mukwanangombe, who feature in his skits and offer advice.

For him, comedy is more than entertainment; it is a calling. “I just need support to grow and take my content to another level,” he said.
