The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has urged candidates who were not successful in Wednesday’s regional council and local authority elections to respect and accept the will of the voters.
Speaking at the final results announcement on Saturday for both regional council and local authority elections, ECN chairperson Elsie Nghikembua said the outcome reflects the choices made by Namibians.
As of Saturday, voter turnout stood at 40.6% for regional council elections and 36.3% for local authority elections.
“I want to congratulate those who have been elected as councillors. Now you must go out, deliver, and address the issues facing our people,” she said.
“To those who did not make it this time, this is the decision of the Namibian voters. Please accept it and embrace it.”
Nghikembua encouraged unsuccessful candidates to continue contributing to national development, saying all Namibians must work together to build a prosperous future.
