A PUBLIC auction of distinctive vehicle licence plates and mobile phone numbers in Dubai has raised more than N$217 million (Dh53 million).
All proceeds from the Most Noble Numbers auction will go to the One Billion Meals campaign, which was launched to boost efforts to combat global hunger.
Plates sold included AA8, F55, V66 and Y66, all of which went for more than Dh46 million.
The event was jointly organised by Emirates Auction, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority and the Abu Dhabi Police.
The number AA8 topped the list, selling for Dh35 million, followed by F55 and V66, both of which went for Dh4 million each and Y66 for Dh3,8m.
Ten mobile phone numbers were also on offer.
Etisalat numbers went for more than Dh5,4 million with the number 971549999999 on top of the list sold for Dh5m.
Five special mobile numbers sold for Dh725,000.
An online auction for 555 number plates by Abu Dhabi Police took place on 17 and 18 April, and on 20 April another event will be auctioning numbers 2, 11 and 20 from code 2 and plate number 99 from code 1 at Abu Dhabi’s Emirates Palace hotel. -thenationalnews.com
