THE DTA has demanded answers on the expenses incurred by the national broadcaster, NBC, to provide live coverage of the Swapo extraordinary congress in Windhoek last month.
The party’s Secretary-General McHenry Venaani has requested the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Nangolo Mbumba to explain to the National Assembly next week whether the party was billed for the coverage. Venaani also wants to know whether other political parties would enjoy live coverage during their congresses in the run-up to national elections later this year.To this Justice Minister Minister Albert Kawana retorted that Venaani’s questions were irrelevant in light of the fact that the DTA had allegedly never held a congress, “only security meetings”.The two-day Swapo congress was held to elect a presidential candidate for the party.Venaani also posed questions relating to Government houses to the Minister of Works, Transport and Communication Moses Amweelo. He requested information relating to the number of Government houses in Windhoek and their market value.Venaani also asked whether any of these houses were demolished due to the upgrading of Robert Mugabe Avenue. The DTA MP also directed questions to the Minister of Finance Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila on whether the International Monetary Fund had released a recent country assessment report on Namibia. The Ministers are expected to provide feedback to his queries next Thursday.Venaani also wants to know whether other political parties would enjoy live coverage during their congresses in the run-up to national elections later this year.To this Justice Minister Minister Albert Kawana retorted that Venaani’s questions were irrelevant in light of the fact that the DTA had allegedly never held a congress, “only security meetings”.The two-day Swapo congress was held to elect a presidential candidate for the party.Venaani also posed questions relating to Government houses to the Minister of Works, Transport and Communication Moses Amweelo. The Ministers are expected to provide feedback to his queries next Thursday.
