DTA MP pleads for development unity

RUNDU – Democratic Turnhalle Alliance (DTA) Secretary General Aloys Gende has warned that interference with traditional authorities could delay development in the Kavango Region.

Gende told Nampa that he had received complaints from some traditional authorities that some members of the Constituency Development Committees (CDCs) are interfering in traditional authority matters. He this could delay development in some parts of the region, adding that traditional authorities have the right to allow projects in their respective areas. The DTA man said CDC members intending to do anything in respect of development should first consult with traditional authorities to avoid misunderstanding among communities.”CDCs are the established bodies to cater for development and they are not there to overrule traditional authorities,” stressed Gende. He referred to a certain CDC that wrote a letter to the Sambyu Traditional Authority outlining how they intended to run affairs in their constituency.Gende appealed to regional councillors spearheading development in their constituencies to guide their CDCs so as to avoid conflict between them and traditional authorities.Gende believes that political differences should be put aside so that traditional leaders and CDCs can work as a team to develop the region.-NampaHe this could delay development in some parts of the region, adding that traditional authorities have the right to allow projects in their respective areas. The DTA man said CDC members intending to do anything in respect of development should first consult with traditional authorities to avoid misunderstanding among communities.”CDCs are the established bodies to cater for development and they are not there to overrule traditional authorities,” stressed Gende. He referred to a certain CDC that wrote a letter to the Sambyu Traditional Authority outlining how they intended to run affairs in their constituency.Gende appealed to regional councillors spearheading development in their constituencies to guide their CDCs so as to avoid conflict between them and traditional authorities.Gende believes that political differences should be put aside so that traditional leaders and CDCs can work as a team to develop the region.-Nampa
