Swapo president Hage Geingob on Saturday said the Popular Democratic Movement, previously known as the Democratic Turnhalle Alliance (DTA), cannot reflect on a liberating history.
Geingob, who was speaking during the birthday celebration of the ruling party at Grootfontein, said the DTA helped to oppress Namibians and therefore cannot talk about a liberating history.
“Talking too much today. They delayed our independence, shame on them,” he said.
Numerous Swapo leaders were at the celebrations, except the party’s deputy president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, as well as both former presidents Sam Nujoma and Hifikepunye Pohamba.
The people attending the celebration included prime minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, National Council chairperson Lukas Sinimbo Muha and Swapo political bureau members Lucia Witbooi, Paula Kooper, Hofni Iipinge, Bernadette Jagger, Verna Sinimbo and Kornelia Shilunga.
