Don’t Be That Person

Fans of ‘Love and Hip Hop’ would know about Erica Mena.

She may have been a mean machine, but she’s been chilled since then. And because I wanted to find out what she was doing with her life since she left the show, I caught up with her on Snapchat, and boy, she has changed. But something that I really enjoyed is a cute segment she does called ‘Don’t Be That Girl’ where she shares tips about girls who do things out of character. So I decided to put a spin on it and do a Namibian version, but including men as well. Let’s get it!

Don’t be that person who goes to a bar with no money and hooks onto strangers to get a couple of drinks. People are only going to look at you as desperate. Sure, someone might come by and treat you to something because they think you are interesting/beautiful, but most of the time, they expect something in return. There are creeps out there. You’ll be much safer at home.

Don’t be that person who goes to a club and grinds up on other people on the dance floor, especially someone who has a partner already. Yeah, there are those people who just find a body to twerk or dance on, and expect a romantic relationship within a day. Have you seen people like that? It’s incredibly creepy, if you ask me. Chill a bit. Don’t just show up in a random person’s face and twerk on their lap. Sure, they’re going to enjoy it for a while, but they’re not going to look at you like you’re decent. Sorry, but it is what it is.

Don’t be that person who brags about getting a blesser and when they do eventually get one, it’s someone’s spouse. Do you really want to be that person who is ruining someone’s marriage? Do you really want to have that on your mind every time you go to sleep? Sure, you might get money and whatnot, but honestly, it’s not difficult to put two and two together. You have a secretary’s salary but you’re driving a Porsche Cayenne and taking trips to Dubai? Come on. I think we’re smarter than that.

Don’t be that person who has enough money to buy a dope flat screen television for their parents, but rather blows it all on bottles at the club to impress strangers. You may attract attention and everything, and sure, you may look like the top cota, but at the end of the day, if you can’t maintain this socalled ‘blow money fast’ lifestyle, then what are you doing with your life? Nah, fam. That’s how you introduce the wrong crowd in your circles, be warned. These people who surround you will not be there when you’re in debt or crying at a family member’s funeral. None of them. Always be on the lookout.

Lastly, don’t be that person with a bad reputation. Namibia is small and people talk. If you have thousands of friends on Facebook and have a thing for being in the public eye, people are going to dig deeper into your lifestyle and find out your business. Like ‘oh, you’re that girl who’s always flirts with other people’s men on Twitter?’ or ‘he’s that guy who sleeps with any girl in a skirt’.
