KEETMANSHOOP – The Municipality here has introduced new tariffs for dog licences in a bid to control the number of canines in the town.

In October, the Municipality said that while 47 per cent of residents at the town owned dogs, 93 per cent of them were unlicensed. The local authority claimed that most of the unlicensed dogs had become a nuisance to residents.This prompted the Municipality to introduce a new set of regulations.Dog owners now have to pay N$28,75 for licences for male dogs and sterilised bitches.Residents who own unsterilised bitches must pay N$46.Although the Municipality promised that a new set of regulations would also be introduced for people who keep poultry and other pets such as cats, no mention of charges for these animals was indicated in the latest municipal notice.- NampaThe local authority claimed that most of the unlicensed dogs had become a nuisance to residents.
