Djibouti minister wins African Union Commisson chairperson vote

Djibouti’s foreign affairs minister, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has been elected as new African Union Commission chairperson in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

He has defeated Kenyan ex-premier Raila Odinga, who had asked for support from Namibian president Nangolo Mbumba and Zimbabwe’s president Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Youssouf has also defeated Madagascar’s ex-foreign affairs minister, Richard Randriamandrato. -African Union
