DJ Kandy expands into beauty with new lip line

Windhoek-based DJ and digital solutions analyst Mercy Shoombe, popularly known as DJ Kandy, has launched her first beauty product under the newly established Kandy Beauty brand.

The brand debuted with a range of lip products, which Shoombe says reflects her long-standing interest in beauty and content creation.

Speaking to The Namibian, she says the business was inspired by years of working with beauty brands and building an online audience.

“Kandy Beauty came from a genuine passion for beauty and a desire to create something that represents me. As a content creator, I’ve had the opportunity to work with different beauty brands and build a community that trusts my recommendations.

“Over time, I realised I didn’t just want to promote products, I wanted to create products that I genuinely believed in and could be proud to put my name on,” DJ Kandy says.

She says the company chose to launch lip products because they are widely used and are a practical starting point for the business.

She plans to expand the product range over the next three years while growing the brand’s customer base.

“This is only the beginning. Over the next three years, I want to continue growing Kandy Beauty by expanding our product range, reaching more customers, and building a brand that’s known for quality and consistency.

“My goal is for Kandy Beauty to become one of Namibia’s leading beauty brands and a name that people trust whenever they think of beauty products.”

The beauty venture adds to DJ Kandy’s growing portfolio, which includes a corporate career in digital solutions, content creation and DJing.

She says pursuing several interests has allowed her to combine technology and creativity rather than choosing between them.

“I’ve built a personal brand centred around beauty, fashion, and lifestyle, which has opened doors to work with both local and international brands.

“My passion for creativity eventually led me into DJing and launching my own beauty brand. I’m someone who believes you don’t have to limit yourself to one path; you can build a successful career while pursuing your creative passions,” she says.

DJ Kandy entered the music industry in September 2023 after deciding to explore another creative outlet beyond content creation.

“Music has always been something I’ve loved, and I wanted to explore another creative outlet beyond content creation,” she says.

She credits fellow DJs Bizza Djay, Vetkoek and The Realest Dealer with helping her develop the technical skills required to perform professionally.

Since then, she has performed at several events and launched her own event, Everybody Loves Kandy.

DJ Kandy says she hopes her career path encourages other young Namibians to pursue different interests simultaneously instead of limiting themselves to a single profession.

“You can build a successful career while also creating opportunities for yourself in the things you love.”
