I WAS very disappointed in The Namibian on Thursday, January 15.
I have always regarded The Namibian as a quality paper providing balanced and sensitive news messages. Photographs published reflect this sensitiveness.I therefore cannot understand why you have decided to publish the photograph of the drowned woman on your front page.I feel this shows an utter lack of respect for this woman and her family.I appreciate that you wanted to report on the floods hitting Windhoek, but I am sure you had a choice of many photographs you could have used instead.I further recall that The Namibian published photographs of dead people on its front page in the past, which also led to an outcry of many of your readers.I had hoped you had learned from these previous experiences and I am therefore disappointed to see you have not taken the views of many of your readers into consideration.I hope you will this time.- Daan Gerretsen – via emailPhotographs published reflect this sensitiveness.
