Disappointed with AG

ALLOW me a space in your good newspaper to express my immense disappointment about the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Pendukeni Ivula-Ithana.

Addressing Swapo supporters at Tsumeb over the weekend, Ivula-Ithana attacked and condemned the people who allegedly have ideas to form a new political party. The Minister quoted as saying: “There is a general belief that the strongest opposition party to challenge Swapo would only come from within its own ranks.Fine, but do not forget what happened to the prophets of doom such as COD’s Ben Ulenga.Be careful not to be used, now they are forming yet another opposition, let them form it themselves, don’t be used”.At the same meeting the regional coordinator of Swapo party in the Oshikoto Region was also quoted as saying, “we can declare here and now that Oshikoto Region shall never give birth or impetus to any other political formation apart from the mighty Swapo. We will deal with them if they transgress the party Constitution”.The Swapo President, Dr Sam Nujoma at the same meeting also attacked imperialists and condemned the ideas claiming that, “we must continue to mobilise all Namibians to join the Swapo party and encourage them to live by the principles and political programme of our country”.The Swapo President also aggressively attacked such people inter alia, saying: “these imperialists on the African continent are bent on mobilising opportunists, upstarts, political renegades, disgruntled and misguided elements and harnessing them to divide people and in to doing reverse their freedom and independence. They are the enemies of peace and social progress”.It is therefore this letter’s intention to remind both Mrs.Ithana, Dr.Nujoma and Armas Amukwiyu not to forget the oath they have taken to defend, protect and uphold as the supreme law the Constitution of this country which should be obeyed by everyone whether he or she wants to or not. That means no one is above the law not even the aforesaid three, they too should obey and respect it.It is this very same Constitution that guarantees the right to political activity.Article 17 (1) says all citizens shall have the right to form and join political parties while Article 21 (e) guarantee the right to freedom of association which shall include freedom to form and join associations or unions, including trade unions and political parties.Article 20 (1) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights says everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association.I want also to remind Mrs.Ithana of the powers and functions of the Attorney General, Article 87 (c) to take all action necessary for the protection and upholding of the Namibia Constitution, which is not the Swapo constitution. In 2005 the law was passed to give Dr.Nujoma the title: Founding Father of the Namibia Nation and I personally have condemned it, and I was attacked by many people including some members of parliament e.g.Deputy Minster Petrus Iilonga a well-known “Ekanda” a habitual caller in Open Line Program as well as self-styled mature politician Joel Katoma from Okahao and John Hakaye a Councillor of Okalongo. And it is surprising to note that a person who was declared to be the Founding Father of the Namibian Nation is fit to be called this when he whether he is really acting only like the Founding Father of Swapo supporters only.It does not serve any purpose for Dr.Nujoma to attack and or condemn his children who have the ideas of broadening democracy by forming and or joining other political parties. Finally, I would like to advise both Mr.Amukwiyu and Mrs.Ithana to acquaint themselves with all the provisions appearing in the Namibian Constitution and to obey them.Ananias Aipinge Kaseven WindhoekThe Minister quoted as saying: “There is a general belief that the strongest opposition party to challenge Swapo would only come
