Dentist arrested over false Psemas claims worth N$400 000

A Grootfontein dentist was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission last week for allegedly submitting false claims to the government’s medical aid scheme.

Sydney Munkonge is the owner of Sydney Dental Therapists, which operates at Grootfontein and Rundu.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested him for allegedly submitting false claims to the Public Service Employees Medical Aid Scheme (Psemas) for services not rendered to certain beneficiaries between 2013 and 2017, amounting to N$405 675.

“Following a thorough ACC investigation, the case docket was submitted to the Office of the Prosecutor General, which decided to prosecute Mr Sydney Mulenga Munkonge and Sydney Dental Therapists CC on multiple counts of fraud and contraventions of the Anti-Corruption Act,” reads an ACC statement released on Thursday.

Munkonge appeared in the Grootfontein Magistrate’s Court on 5 February and was granted bail in an amount of N$50 000 on 6 February.

The case was postponed to 26 February for an appearance before the Regional Periodical Court.
