Landless People’s Movement representative Ivan Skrywer says the delay of some election results is creating more room for vote rigging suspicions.
Skrywer said this in a letter to the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) on Friday.
“I have written to the ECN to ask about the results. Our interpretation is that the longer results take to be announced, the more it creates and adds to the already existing suspicion of election rigging/fraud,” he said.
Skrywer said this further adds to not trusting the election process.
He said he is informed that the Affirmative Repositioning has also written to the ECN about concerns over delayed results.
In response to this, ECN chairperson Elsie Nghikembua on Friday evening said the commission is committed to announcing all results at once, but a thorough verification process must be conducted to ensure they are accurate.
She, however, said more results could be announced later on Friday evening once verified.
ECN spokesperson De Wet Siluka says so far 81 regional constituencies’ results have been announced and those of 45 local authorities.
