A member of the Namibian Defence Force died after he was hit by a vehicle on the C33 road near Karibib on Friday.
Immanuel Samoa (39) was based at Karibib.
According to the Erongo police, the incident happened at about 00h20 on Friday, about 7km from Karibib towards Omaruru.
The police say a Namibian man (38) was driving a white bakkie, with a Swakopmund registration, from the direction of Osino Mine towards Omaruru when he allegedly saw a pedestrian in the road.
The driver told the police he tried to avoid hitting the pedestrian, but it was too late.
Samoa died at the scene.
His next of kin have been informed of the incident.
A culpable homicide case has been opened and police investigations are continuing.
