A decapitated fetus was discovered in a rubbish skip in the Tulinawa area of Swakopmund on Friday.

The discovery was made by a member of the public who was going through the contents of the skip.

According to a report issued by Erongo police spokesperson warrant officer Anastasia Frans on an enquiry from The Namibian, the fetus, estimated to be around four to five months old, was found in a state of decomposition, wrapped in a plastic bag from a local shop.

The detached head of the fetus was also found in the same bag, Frans reported.

Frans stated that the matter is being investigated as a case of concealment of birth or possibly murder. No suspects have been arrested at this stage.

The police are urging anyone with information related to the matter to come forward. Detective warrant officer Cletus Kabuku can be reached at 081 391 0671 and detective chief inspector Selma Shangula at 081 667 6820.
