HARRY Simon has expressed dismay over rumours circulating on social media that he died in a car crash on Friday.
Simon, who is preparing for a world title fight in November, told The Namibian Sport that he was not involved in an accident of any sort, and he is in good health.
The former two-time world middleweight champion said the rumour brought his family unwarranted grief.
“This is not funny. Even if you don’t like me, this is just not right. I have family and people who care about me who have been hurt by these stupid things people are putting on Facebook and WhatsApp. Whoever you are, you are hurting innocent people,” Simon stressed.
“People were calling me and my family members non-stop to find out if it’s true. I feel really bad because this thing greatly affected my grandmother. I hope whoever started that rumour is happy to have made an old woman sad like that,” he added.
Still undefeated and now fighting as a cruiserweight, Simon said he was looking forward to making his long-anticipated return to the ring on 18 November when he faces Said Mbelwa of Tanzania for the World Boxing Union (WBU) strap.
“I know what I have to do to win. I am working on getting in shape just at the right time. I want to win the title, and defend it before I go for something else,” the pugilist stated.
