Deaf girl allegedly raped by taxi driver

The Oshana police have reported an incident in which a seven-year-old deaf girl was allegedly raped by a taxi driver who was taking her to school at Ongwediva.

The incident, which happened on Monday, was reported by the victim’s mother.

“The name and particulars of the driver are currently not known, but the police are searching for him,” said warrant officer Ndapunikwa Ashiyana of the Oshana police.

“Parents, please let’s watch our kids, especially those who wake up early to walk to school. Escort the kids and wait for the taxi with them. We really need to be vigilant and take extra care of the children. Don’t just trust anyone with your child, do a background check of the taxi drivers before trusting them with your children,” cautioned Ashiyana.

Ashiyana also cautioned females to avoid walking alone on deserted roads, saying they should rather walk in groups.
