The Development Bank of Namibia (DBN) on Wednesday launched a women-focused financing initiative, DBN For Her, to support women-owned businesses.
The facility is backed by N$400 million in funding from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to improve access to finance for women entrepreneurs.
Finance minister Ericah Shafudah says DBN For Her represents a deliberate and strategic response to structural imbalances in the Namibian economy.
“It is not only about access to finance, but about ensuring that women become active drivers of economic growth, job creation, and national development,” she says.
The facility targets 100% women-owned businesses employing between five and 300 people.
Loans range from N$150 000 to N$10 million, with a 12-month grace period and flexible collateral options.
Gender equality and child welfare minister Emma Kantema says empowering women is key to economic growth and stronger communities.
DBN board chairperson Evangelina Nailenge says the initiative is a step towards inclusive economic participation and unlocking the potential of women entrepreneurs.
