DBN invests N$21b into economy

The Development Bank of Namibia has invested over N$21 billion into the Namibian economy since its inception in 2004, minister of finance Ericah Shafudah has revealed.

She further revealed that the state-owned bank has, in the process, helped to create over 76 000 jobs.

“The DBN’s funding for SME projects, and youth and women-led businesses
shows that empowerment and inclusion are integral to our economic
development,” Shafudah said during DBN’s Good Business And Innovation award ceremony on Monday.

Shafudah further called for the promotion of new ideas and technologies in an ever-changing world.

She expressed the government’s commitment to ensuring a policy environment that fosters innovation, including investing in information and communication technology infrastructure to support research and development in areas like green hydrogen, agro-processing and digital services.

“We see many opportunities for Namibia to leap forward – but it will require courage and creativity from entrepreneurs and strong support from institutions like the DBN,” the minister said.
