Judging by last Sunday’s surprising ‘Dancing With the Stars SA’ semi-final, viewers can expect nothing but fireworks this Sunday when the popular show comes to an end and the king and queen of the ballroom will be announced in the grand finale.
After occupying the top of the leader board for many weeks, and receiving the first 10 out of 10 score from tough judge Tebogo Kgobokoe, singer and songwriter Connell Cruise and his dancing partner Marcella Solimeo found themselves in the dreaded dance-off against netball goal shooter Vanes-Mari du Toit and Johannes Radebe – the charming and quirky dancing couple who have stepped up their game week after week.
Up until then, Cruise and Solimeo were the only dancers who had managed to escape the dance-off, based on the judges’ and voting public’s combined score.
In the end judges Jason Gilkison, Kgobokoe, Debbie Turner and Bryan Watson decided that Cruise and Solimeo deserved a spot in the glittering finale show, sending a gracious du Toit and Radebe home.
“We’ve had the most amazing journey! I just want to congratulate everyone for making it through to the finals,” Du Toit concluded.
Cruise and Solimeo join Eden Classens and his partner Ash-Leigh Hunter, and Zola Nombona and her dance partner Tebogo Mashilo as they battle it out for the winning spot.
The stars take to the floor for the final time at 17h00 on M-Net channel 102, alongside musical performers Clair Johnston, Craig Lucas and Mafikizolo.
