Damaseb no longer NFA president

NAMIBIA Football Association (NFA) president Petrus Damaseb stepped down from that position over the weekend, citing pressing work commitments as a Judge President of Namibia.

NFA vice president John Muinjo will take over in an acting capacity until a congress is held next year. He will be assisted by executive member Dr Kolbinian Amutenya. The announcement was made by NFA spokesperson Beau Kauta yesterday. He said Damaseb, who has been the longest serving president of the association, was giving way to others because he had his hands full with his legal work.Damaseb has been president of the association for seven years and his resignation will pave the way for Muinjo and others to vie for the position when the congress is held early next year.Damaseb, a no-nonsense and often controversial figure during his tenure, was instrumental in drawing a major N$40 million sponsorship deal to football last year. His other big achievement was the construction of Soccer House in the heart of Katutura. He managed to bring world football chief Sepp Blatter to Namibia for the opening of the N$6 million facility.Damaseb will still serve as the vice president of Cosafa and as member of the sub-committees of CAF and Fifa.He will be assisted by executive member Dr Kolbinian Amutenya. He managed to bring world football chief Sepp Blatter to Namibia for the opening of the N$6 million facility.Damaseb will still serve as the vice president of Cosafa and as member of the sub-committees of CAF and Fifa.
