A portion from the concert proceeds will be donated to EPP, a Katutura-based charity organisation that collects and distributes sanitary pads.
Damara DikDing says he would like to use the platform to unite the Namibian House, promote positivity and peace.
“My celebration comes with a message. Last year, around this time, I was in a different time and space. So, this year I’m using my name, music and brand to reach out to communities and let them know it’s very important not to give up on ourselves. Rather lose people and material things than losing yourself,” he says.
“Everybody in the country is recovering in some sort of way from Covid-19, emotional and financial situations. I just felt like it was time for healing and building again. It’s my way of encouraging anybody dealing with personal issues not to lose themselves,” he says.
Damara DikDing describes his past 20 years as a digital diary and learning experience. He says he is always learning and often tries to take a piece of everybody he is working with – established or upcoming.
“I understood that the highs and lows are meant to enhance your night vision and make you realise the importance of your journey. Despite the toxicity of the environment, one should always try to find things that ground them before they get carried away. I understood that not everybody is for you and not all money is good money,” he said.
Now, 20 years later, Damara DikDing says he wants to focus on his record label, new team of talent and the social programmes that he is currently running. Some of the programmes that he is currently working on are a sanitary pad distributing project and music career mentoring programme for young upcoming producers and musicians.
