Security company G4S Namibia says some criminals have started stealing its guards’ uniforms from washing lines and are using them to pose as security officers and technicians in Windhoek.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, the company’s management says imposters have reportedly used the stolen uniforms with the aim to carry out “irregular activities”.
G4S says its employees do not appear unannounced at any property.
The company says guards follow strict deployment procedures, including contacting clients beforehand, and its staff arrive in branded G4S vehicles, not in any other vehicle or on foot.
The company is urging the public to verify any suspicious encounters before allowing a supposed guard or technician onto their premises.
An employee at G4S told The Namibian on Sunday that they received a call from a resident at Academia in Windhoek on Friday who said a man wearing a G4S uniform showed up at his gate saying he is a technician and needed to fix something in the house.
“The resident refused to open the gate and called us. We confirmed that there is no one like that who works for us,” the employee said.
He said a similar suspicious incident was also reported on Friday.
