A man, Vilho Ambondo (31), died after being assaulted with a metal object at Katutura.

National police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi says the incident occurred on Saturday at around 16h45.

The victim later died at a hospital, while the suspect remains at large.

Suicide

At Keetmanshoop, Andries Esterhuizen (32) allegedly took his own life in the early hours of yesterday morning.

No suicide note was found, and no foul play is suspected.

Hit and run

The police also reported two hit-and-run cases. At Tsandi, the body of an Angolan national, Zee Miranda, was discovered on the Iitananga–Omakange road on Friday night.

He is suspected to have been struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene.

In a similar incident at Mombela village in the Choi area, Mahalo Makutela (32) died on the spot after being hit by an unknown vehicle between 03h00 and 05h00 on Saturday.

The driver allegedly failed to stop.

Inquest
Several inquest cases were recorded. At Oshakati, the body of Aina Amutenya (90) was found in her bedroom at Onawa location on Saturday morning.
Shikwambi says no foul play is suspected.
At Eenhana, Joel Hamutenya (9) drowned in a pond at Ohaihana village on Saturday afternoon.

It is alleged that the deceased was with two other minors at the time of the incident. His next of kin has been informed.

At Ongwediva, Shikulo David (7) drowned in an earth dam at Okandjengedi on Friday after allegedly going swimming with other children.

The next of kin has been informed.

At Kehemu, Mbendeka Mbandja (42) died at his home at Kaisosi location on Saturday night. No foul play is suspected.

At Nomtsoub, Abraham Naftal (39) died at his home shortly after complaining of being unwell in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Assault

At Otjiwarongo, a woman allegedly assaulted a man at a local supermarket on Friday evening by hitting, grabbing and biting him.

The victim sustained injuries, but no arrest has been made.

Police investigations into all cases are continuing.
