Crime at the coast – forget about it!

THE Mayor of Swakopmund, Rosina //Hoabes, has sent out a serious warning to people who are planning to create chaos in Swakopmund this festive season by not obeying the law.

“They will have to deal with the full force of the Namibian Police,” she said at the last Council Meeting of the year. //Hoabes said 35 additional Police officers have been brought in to reinforce the Swakopmund Police during the town’s busiest time of the year.”A zero tolerance attitude by the law enforcement agencies would be adopted to ensure that people who wish to come to Swakopmund to have fun, will have fun,” she stated. In his recent year-end address to the people of Erongo, the regional Police commander, Deputy Commissioner Festus Shilongo, echoed /Hoabes’ statements, and added that it was the community’s responsibility to keep themselves and their fellow men and women safe by helping the Police in the fight against crime.”Our beautiful region is in need of visitors, and we welcome them.It is however for them to note that, while the Police will do what they can to make the region safe; it is just as important for our visitors to play it safe, and not to tempt criminal activity.”Shilongo specifically warned motorists, saying that they should respect traffic rules and signs, as well as other road users. He warned that those caught for drunken driving would feel the full force of the law.Roadblocks along the main entrance and exit routes to the coast, frequent road patrols and increased police visibility are all signs that the Police are determined to “make and keep Erongo safe”, he said.//Hoabes said 35 additional Police officers have been brought in to reinforce the Swakopmund Police during the town’s busiest time of the year.”A zero tolerance attitude by the law enforcement agencies would be adopted to ensure that people who wish to come to Swakopmund to have fun, will have fun,” she stated. He warned that those caught for drunken driving would feel the full force of the law.Roadblocks along the main entrance and exit routes to the coast, frequent road patrols and increased police visibility are all signs that the Police are determined to “make and keep Erongo safe”, he said.
