Retail is an important industry in Namibia, one that provides many jobs to people across the country.
Recognising the role this sector plays, Namibian Retailing Group Services, a company specialising in retail management by young Namibians has taken the lead in providing training.
At the end of January the company completed an internship programme which saw 22 shop assistant cashiers trained through Model Pick n Pay Namibia, under its current programme Personnel Care Unity (PCU) which caters for temporary employment.
Namibian Retailing Group Services was formed in 2016 in Ongwediva. It offers theoretical and practical training in various retail positions such as shop assistants, pharmacy assistants and store management.
The company was formed by Jafef Nengola (30) who has eight years experience in the retail industry. He has witnessed first hand how new entry level employees struggle to answer questions during interviews. “For most of them, when they get the job, the way they conduct themselves as employees is questionable. That’s why we came up with this training,” says Nengola.
The training takes place for a minimum duration of three months, with an additional three months of in-store training.
It was created to help young Namibians gain knowledge, skills and experience which will help them become the best candidates in the labour industry.
Since 2016 the company has made the training of 183 young Namibians possible, and 72% managed to get three months experience from different stores across Namibia.
“Through hard work and dedication 19% of the 72% secured permanent employment,” says Nengola.
