Namibian professional cyclist Dan Craven has joined one of the top cycling teams in Europe, Team Europcar.
According to an article on lequipe.fr negotiations between Craven and the director of Team Europcar, Jean-René Bernaudeau already started in La Tropicale Amissa Bongo in January and will be concluded in the coming days with the signing of the contract.
Craven is a globetrotter and has previously raced for Rapha Condor (2009-2011), Team IG-Sigma Sport (2012, Synergy Baku equipment (2013 ) and this year in the German continental squad, Aid Bike Ride for Help.
Craven won the African Championships in 2008 and came second in 2013, and this year he has won the Tour of Cameroon, came fifth in the Tour of Morocco and 11th in La Tropicale.
“Dan captivated me immediately. I pictured him in my team because it is a single character that will bring us much by his experience and his philosophy of life,” Bernaudeau was quoted as saying by L’Equipe .
Craven is enthusiastic: “This is an opportunity for me to live great moments. It will also allow young Namibian riders to see that there’s a future, to show them that anything is possible in life, even if we start from the base.”
The French sports daily reported that Craven comes with a personal sponsor, Nedbank, a Namibian bank, and will sign his contract with Europcar and Bernaudeau in the coming days, in order to contest the Tour of Spain in August.
