Covid campaign song calls on the youth

PARTNERING with rapper and musician Antany Frans on their first official campaign, science communication company TruSci Namibia aims to encourage the youth of Namibia to protect themselves during the Covid-19 pandemic and get vaccinated.

The campaign consists of a song, ‘Covid Reverse’ – written and performed by Frans who is popularly referred to as AntanyKnows, and a competition in which young people can walk away with weekly prizes.

One such competition encourages young people to come up with an official dance to the song and the winner could walk away with N$3 000 and also be featured in the eventual music video.

As the pandemic doesn’t seem to be relenting, the campaign combines expertise in music and science to come up with an ingenious way to spread much-needed information, especially at a time when misinformation is rife.

According to the team, made up of founders and sisters Taime Sylvester and Chera Harris, TruSci Namibia aims to enhance the accessibility of comprehensive scientific information in Namibia.

Together with Frans, they were able to conceptualise ‘Covid Reverse’. The catchy track is done really well, and the lyrics are peppered with safety tips and advice for staying healthy during these times. This is laid over an up-tempo beat featuring elements of hip-hop and old school Namibian and central African sounds, with hints of singura and Afro-beats.

Follow TruSci Namibia on social media to hear the song, participate in competitions and help spread awareness.
