Court erred with same-sex marriages decision – IPC

Panduleni Itula

The Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) is claiming the Supreme Court committed a “gross and patent error of judgement” in its recent ruling that the government should recognize same-sex marriages validly concluded outside Namibia.

IPC said this in its evaluation of the Supreme Court judgment regarding same-sex marriages that was delivered last week.

“In light of the serious violation of the Namibian Constitution, the Independent Patriots for Change shall support the proclamation of a national referendum as the only, legitimate superior act of a sovereign nation in which the people of Namibia may exercise their authority in which all power is vested,” the party said.

The party said the proclamation of a national referendum is the only avenue to seek to overturn the court ruling.
