Acting Kavango East police regional commander deputy commissioner Eino Nambahu has urged officers to handle their financial affairs better as some end up not having taxi money to come to work.
He also urged police officers to stop borrowing money.
“It’s too much. You should stop borrowing money … Your payslips are full of debt. Improve on your salaries and reduce your debt. You end up not having taxi money while you have a transport allowance,” he said.
Nambahu was speaking at a parade for newly promoted officers at Rundu on Wednesday, where 147 police officers were served with their promotion appointment letters. A total of 54 women and 93 men received their promotions, effective from 1 December.
Nambahu said the promotions come with salary adjustments, therefore, issues of wallowing in debt should come to an end because it affects their performance.
Nambahu said it is a milestone for the Kavango East region to be promoting 147 police officers.
“A rank comes with added responsibility and commitment, therefore, it is expected for you to go the extra mile by working hard, maintaining a high level of discipline and improving service delivery. You are expected to serve the community with no fear or favour and in consideration of the principles of ethics because the community is complaining of poor service delivery despite the efforts the regional police management is making to ensure that members are motivated and willing to deliver.”
Nambahu said the promotion was one such effort. He added that those not promoted during the first round should be patient for the next round.
The promoted officers are part of the 4 682 officers promoted countrywide which includes 2 638 men and 2 044 women – representing 44% of women.
The last mass promotion was conducted in December 2020. The second phase of promotion is yet to be announced.
