A SENIOR Police officer appeared in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court last week on charge of fraud or alternatively false representation to obtain a firearm licence.

Warrant Officer Ipureni Simon Iita (31) is free on warning until his next court appearance on October 12. Iita, who was dealing with firearm licence applications, allegedly unlawfully granted a licence to person to whom he sold a firearm.Apparently Iita had indicated on the licence application form that the applicant was in possession of a firearm safe. However, when a fellow officer inspected the applicant’s premises, no safe was found there.Acting Regional Police Commander Nicky Nampala yesterday told The Namibian that Iita had since been transferred to another division.Iita, who was dealing with firearm licence applications, allegedly unlawfully granted a licence to person to whom he sold a firearm.Apparently Iita had indicated on the licence application form that the applicant was in possession of a firearm safe. However, when a fellow officer inspected the applicant’s premises, no safe was found there.Acting Regional Police Commander Nicky Nampala yesterday told The Namibian that Iita had since been transferred to another division.
