Utoni Nujoma has urged Namibians to honour his late father’s vision by carrying forward the projects he championed, including a long-held dream of water security through desalination.
Speaking on behalf of the Nujoma family on Friday, he echoed former president Hifikepunye Pohamba, who also urged citizens to continue Nujoma’s initiatives.
“His memory will live on in the projects he initiated,” Utoni said.
He highlighted his father’s wish to attain water security by building a desalination plant from Namibia’s coast.
“My father had a strong conviction that Namibia could achieve sustainability for water and food,” he said.
Utoni noted that Nujoma was surrounded by his children and loved ones when he took his last breath.
“As he took his last breath, our hearts were filled with sadness and grief.”
He further said his relationship with Nujoma was balanced by him being both his commander-in-chief and father.
“Our relationship was filled with affection, love and discipline,” Utoni added.
