Local football analyst Waka Katuamba has expressed disappointment over the omission of Namibia Premier Football League (NPFL) top scorer, Mighty Gunners FC striker Mashiku Hans Muyeka, from the Brave Warriors’ international fixtures.
The Brave Warriors face Comoros today and Monday in global football body Fifa international friendly matches.
Caretaker coaches John Sikerete and assistant Marley Ngarizemo have selected six other local strikers, excluding Muyeka, who scored four goals this season, and teammate Barnard Arnodius Horaseb, who scored three.
Rundu Chiefs FC’s Dert ‘Bigman’ Goagoseb, with three goals, was also omitted, while Eeshoke Chula Chula Michael Jonas made the squad.
Among those called up, Okahandja United FC’s Chris Haoseb and FC Ongos’ Nicodemus Haikali each scored two goals.
Reacting to Muyeka’s omission, Katuamba says: “For me it’s a big surprise that the Brave Warriors’ technical team set to play two international friendly matches against Comoros did not call up one of the current top goalscorers in the NPFL.
“Mighty Gunners Muyeka is on four goals and leads the chart for this season so far, but he is not called even just to train and be seen.”
He says Goagoseb not making the cut either has come as a surprise.
“How can one drop a top scorer for other strikers, some of whom do not feature in the NPFL top-scorer sheet and have not even scored a single goal?
“But let’s wait and see what the plan is for the Brave Warriors. We were informed that these are the players who will carry Namibia’s hope for the future Africa Nations Championship, but when top goalscorers are overlooked, that does not augur well for football,” Katuamba says.
Mighty Gunners FC assistant coach Gerald Hengari describes Muyeka as a gifted player who can challenge any defender.
He suggests the omission could be because Muyeka recently moved up from the lower division, having played for Airborne FC in the Hardap region.
“He is a brilliant striker with a bright future. This is a player deserving to play for the Brave Warriors,” Hengari says, adding that Muyeka’s time to shine will come.
Katuamba says the 2025/26 season promises to be entertaining and competitive, judging by the first five matches.
“I applaud the Namibia Football Association for sticking to its guns and having the new season start as promised.
“This season kicked off like a house on fire – heavily entertaining – thanks to these young players. They have really lived up to expectations.
“Watching all these teams, who would have thought that a team like KK Palace FC would defeat Tigers FC?” he asks.
