FOUR suspected computer thieves were arrested just before sunrise yesterday.
Members of the City Police and private security company G4S apprehended them in Windhoek’s southern industrial area. Apparently, members of G4S had been following the four for hours before they were led to the group’s apparent safe house in Lazaret Street.By the time the men were asked to step out of the vehicle at around 05h00, members of the City Police had also arrived on the scene.Among the items found in a Toyota Corolla driven by the men were a number of computers and monitors, seven sound boxes, a power generator and printers.More items were found in the Government-owned house.By yesterday afternoon, spokesmen for the Namibian and Windhoek City Police were unable to comment on the arrests. It was also not clear to whom the suspected stolen items had belonged.City Police spokesperson Marx Hipandua confirmed that the men had been arrested, but could not say whether they are linked to the series of computer thefts that have been taking place in the capital over the past month.Last week, Namibian Police spokesperson Angula Amulungu expressed his office’s frustration over the lack of arrests in the robberies, which have seen over 80 computers stolen from mostly Government offices, some private businesses and most recently the union offices in Katutura.Apparently, members of G4S had been following the four for hours before they were led to the group’s apparent safe house in Lazaret Street.By the time the men were asked to step out of the vehicle at around 05h00, members of the City Police had also arrived on the scene.Among the items found in a Toyota Corolla driven by the men were a number of computers and monitors, seven sound boxes, a power generator and printers.More items were found in the Government-owned house.By yesterday afternoon, spokesmen for the Namibian and Windhoek City Police were unable to comment on the arrests. It was also not clear to whom the suspected stolen items had belonged.
