Company plans 18-hole golf course at Walvis Bay

THE Municipality of Walvis Bay on 16 October placed a notice in local newspapers indicating its intention to sell 111 hectares of prime land for N$63,9 million to the company President’s Links Estate (Pty) Ltd for the development of a golf estate.

The buyers intend to extend the existing desert golf course from a nine-hole to an 18-hole course.

The proposed price for the land to be sold through a private transaction is set at N$50 a square metre.

The land is situated behind the Walvis Bay Golf Course east of the upmarket Meersig and Fairway neighbourhoods.

The municipality’s housing and properties manager, Jack Manale, confirmed the intended transaction for the prestigious development.

“The land was earmarked for the future expansion of the golf course in terms of the integrated urban special development framework. The developers are local Namibians from Walvis Bay and they want to deliver a golf estate that will include the extension of the golf course and residential area around the golf course,” said Manale.

The company is believed to be owned by Pieter Fox, a developer and owner of Fox Designs, Andrew van der Westhuizen of Van der Westhuizen Town Planning and Properties and Wiseman Molatzi, owner of Proprietors Business Solutions CC.

The Namibian understands that President’s Links Estate (Pty) Ltd was not a registered entity at the time it applied to purchase the land, as its application for registration was still not approved by the Business and Intellectual Property Authority (Bipa).

Sources within Bipa confirmed that its application was rejected on 15 October because of some mistakes. The company was eventually registered on 6 November.

Questions sent to Molatzi, who is a partner in the proposed development, on how the company managed to put through a proposal to the municipality before it was legally registered had not been answered before going to print.

The Namibian wanted to understand why the company chose Walvis Bay for this development, seeing that there are already many planned developments at the town that are standing undeveloped over the years.

This publication also wanted to understand how the golf course will be maintained in a town that is facing water challenges as well as how President’s Links Estate intended to plough back into the community of Walvis Bay.
