THE youth wings of two political parties are embroiled in a war of words after CoD president Ben Ulenga made a remark last week that the Swapo Youth League “owned” the public service medical aid scheme PSEMAS.
Ulenga briefly touched on PSEMAS in his contribution to the additional budget debate in the National Assembly, saying that the “Swapo Youth League owns PSEMAS”. Ulenga should not make such an unwarranted statement, according to Elijah Ngurare, secretary for information of the Swapo Youth League.”Ulenga should provide proof of the allegation,” Ngurare demanded in a press release at the end of last week. This resulted in a reaction yesterday from the Young Democrats, the CoD youth wing. The business arm of Swapo YL, Juventas Enterprises, had a stake in NamHealth and Prosperity Africa Holdings, which in turn were running PSEMAS, the Young Democrats said. The unsigned statement by the Young Democrats said that Namhealth had won the tender to run PSEMAS a second time in 2003.”The tender is worth hundreds of millions of dollars.Through Juventas, the Swapo Youth League, amongst others, receives millions from Government,” being a profit share of the PSEMAS tender, the Young Democrats alleged.NamHealth owns a 30 per cent stake in Prosperity Health.Ulenga should not make such an unwarranted statement, according to Elijah Ngurare, secretary for information of the Swapo Youth League.”Ulenga should provide proof of the allegation,” Ngurare demanded in a press release at the end of last week. The unsigned statement by the Young Democrats said that Namhealth had won the tender to run PSEMAS a second time in 2003.”The tender is worth hundreds of millions of dollars.Through Juventas, the Swapo Youth League, amongst others, receives millions from Government,” being a profit share of the PSEMAS tender, the Young Democrats alleged.NamHealth owns a 30 per cent stake in Prosperity Health.
