CoD suspends ‘immoral’ Usakos town councillor

THE Congress of Democrats (CoD) on Friday suspended Usakos Town Councillor Daniel Stramiss from his position.

This comes after allegations of Stramiss’s alleged involvement with an underaged girl, who fell pregnant as a result of the alleged relationship. In a statement issued on Friday afternoon, the CoD stated that Stramiss had been suspended with immediate effect.”Councillor Stramiss, who was till today, Friday 14 July 2006, the Chairperson of the Management Committee of the Usakos Town Council, has been officially informed of the Party’s decision,” the statement from the party president’s office reads.”The CoD decided to suspend Mr Daniel Stramiss as a direct result of a case of alleged sexual involvement with a minor girl, who is alleged to (now be) pregnant. The case is now under Police investigation,” it continued.Stramiss’s replacement will be announced in due course, the party stated.Contacted for comment on Friday, an upset Stramiss said that the party had not considered his side of the story, and had “decided to side with the enemy”.His enemies, he said, are fellow politicians who have decided to conjure up vicious rumours meant to hurt his political career.”Why is the CoD only trying to protect their name and not mine,” he asked before declaring that he would soon call a press conference to clear his name.Three weeks ago, Police started a formal investigation against Stramiss for alleged “immoral practices”, with regard to his alleged role in the girl’s impregnation. The charges against him are being investigated by the Police’s Woman and Child Abuse Unit in Walvis Bay, and it will be up to the Prosecutor General’s office to decide whether further action against the councillor is warranted.
