CoD queries voters’ roll

CoD queries voters’ roll

THE Congress of Democrats (CoD) says it will appoint independent auditors and lawyers to study the voters’ roll, which it says contains discrepancies.

The CoD says it wants to get an informed opinion before taking steps against the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN).At a media briefing yesterday, party spokesman Natji Tjirera said it would be unwise for elections to take place while the exact number of registered voters is not known. He added that the state of the voters’ roll could create an environment where ‘ghost voters can cast their votes in favour of the powers that be’.Tjirera further stated that in the wake of rigging allegations levelled against Government, the party would not leave anything to chance. He said the CoD believes that the allegations are well founded since they were repeatedly made by Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) president Hidipo Hamutenya, who was a former Swapo leader.Tjirera said Hamutenya must tell the nation how the elections used to be rigged and who were the biggest casualties of the election rigging. He further said that Hamutenya cannot be exonerated of these allegations because he was member of Swapo’s Politburo and if elections had been rigged, he and other RDP members were party to the rigging.
