FIVE men armed with pistols caused mayhem in a shop along Independence Avenue in the centre of Windhoek on Friday, when they robbed the clothing store in broad daylight.
Soon after the robbery the men jumped into a getaway car and fled in a movie-like scene. Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer James Matengu, said yesterday that “all five of them, each armed with a pistol in hand” stormed into the Fashion World shop, below the Kalahari Sands Hotel, and announced the hold-up to shop attendants and customers. They ordered everybody in the shop to lie flat on the floor before helping themselves to N$50 000 in the tills and drawers. As quickly as they arrived, they dashed out of the store and jumped into a red car waiting for them on the main street. One of the people in the shop got a description of the car and quickly alerted the Traffic Police, who chased the robbers’ car through the town centre to Greenwell Matongo in Katutura. At Greenwell Matongo the robbers hit a pavement, causing the car to come to an abrupt halt.Matengu said the five robbers then jumped out of the car and fled into the nearby bushes.By late yesterday they were “still at large” and nothing has been recovered.Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer James Matengu, said yesterday that “all five of them, each armed with a pistol in hand” stormed into the Fashion World shop, below the Kalahari Sands Hotel, and announced the hold-up to shop attendants and customers. At Greenwell Matongo the robbers hit a pavement, causing the car to come to an abrupt halt.Matengu said the five robbers then jumped out of the car and fled into the nearby bushes.By late yesterday they were “still at large” and nothing has been recovered.
