City tight-lipped over broken CCTV cameras

QUERIES by The Namibian on the state of the new City Police CCTV cameras, have apparently jolted the authorities into action as a man was seen fixing one of the cameras in Independence Avenue yesterday.

The Namibian previously attempted to meet the officials at the City of Windhoek concerning the state of the street cameras but the meeting had been postponed since Friday last week.

One of the supervising technicians, who was at the scene told The Namibian that it does not always have to be broken to be fixed.

The city has a total of 94 cameras installed at strategic positions to reduce crime in the city as well as to help City Police in protecting properties within their jurisdiction.

City police spokesperson Gerry Shikesho could not be reached for comment at the time of going to press.
