City reserves Olympia, Windhoek West plots for park development

The City of Windhoek has reserved two public open spaces, namely Erf 7146 in Olympia and Erf R/4247 in Windhoek West, to be developed as parks.

The parks will be adopted by Windhoek City Council members Illse Keister and Clemencia Hanases, following a 2024 city council resolution that encourages council members to voluntarily adopt parks to mobilise resources for their development or upgrading.

City of Windhoek chief executive Moses Matyayi says the erven are currently undeveloped and are 90 980 square metres and 5 508 square metres in size, respectively.

They will be developed in accordance with the city’s Recreational Facilities and Public Open Spaces Development Master Plan.

“This includes adherence to principles of accessibility, sustainability, community engagement and proper maintenance,” Matyayi said.

The reservation is valid for 12 months, during which the council members will be expected to submit detailed development proposals and funding plans.

“This initiative aligns with Windhoek’s strategic goals of social progression, economic advancement and infrastructure development, aiming to enhance green spaces for public recreation and community wellbeing,” Matyayi said.
