City of Windhoek warns of criminals impersonating municipal workers, asking for payments

The City of Windhoek has warned residents to be on the alert for individuals calling people and falsely claiming to represent the municipality.

The culprits are allegedly requesting payments from residents to prevent the disconnection of municipal services such as water and electricity.

“Please be advised that this is a scam, and the City of Windhoek has not authorised anyone to call residents requesting e-wallet payments or EFT/online payments,” the municipality said in a statement on Sunday.

Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the City of Windhoek’s customer contact centre at 061 290 3777.
