A Windhoek pensioner says the City of Windhoek repaired a damaged guardrail near her home only after The Namibian questioned the year-long delay.
Albertina Thomas (65), who lives in Dorado Park, told The Namibian in June the delay in repairing the guardrail has caused her emotional distress.
Thomas said although she reported the matter to the city in March 2025 after the problem began in November 2024, no repairs were carried out for over a year.
“I am not satisfied with their delay in giving me feedback on the process, they had a dismissive attitude towards my complaints,” she said.
Thomas also questioned whether complaints only receive attention after the media becomes involved.

Her house is located near a traffic circle that produces a high volume of traffic daily.
She said the delay in fixing the guardrail has so far led to three accidents, including damage to her boundary wall.
Although the guardrail has since been repaired, Thomas said she remains displeased with how the matter was handled.
She said she was disappointed that the city had not apologised for the inconvenience she endured for nearly two years.
She added that the damage to her property and the emotional distress she experienced could have been avoided had the matter been prioritised last year.
Thomas said she believes the road itself should be assessed to determine why vehicles continue to veer off the road and end up near residential properties.
City spokesperson Lydia Amutenya says the city was aware of the matter and had prioritised the repair of the guardrail.
She says the delay in addressing the matter was due to the sourcing of specialised materials, particularly guardrails, which were not readily available.
