City denies N$200 million tender

The City of Windhoek rubbished allegations of awarding a tender worth N$200 million to Pulsar Electronic Solutions in a statement sent to the media on Thursday.

“The City of Windhoek has not awarded any tender to Pulsar Electronic Solutions, and such claims are unfounded and misleading,” the statement noted.

This follows the publication of an article in New Era on 4 August titled ‘City handpicks rookie firm for N$200 million tender’.

According to the statement, Pulsar Electronic Solutions approached the City of Windhoek after developing an electric pre-paid smart meter that incorporates a Wi-Fi router designed to enable smart metering and internet connectivity through various wireless options.

To test the functionality of their product in a real environment, Pulsar Electronic Solutions approached the City of Windhoek for permission to install smart meters at houses with willing participants.

“The council agreed to the testing of 20 smart meters, with the possibility of increasing the testing to 100 meters if the testing on the first 20 yields positive results,” noted the statement.

If the testing of the 20 meters is successful, Pulsar Electronic Solutions has promised to donate the meters to the City of Windhoek.

The municipality will in turn seek ministerial approval to accept the donation.

Pulsar Electronic Solutions is a start-up innovation company located at the Namibia University of Science and Technology’s (Nust) Fabrication Laboratory (FabLab).

The statement noted that Nust and the City of Windhoek signed an agreement underscoring their commitment to technological advancements.
