Chuckle Factory to host local comedy show

Namibia’s leading comedians will take centre stage at the National Theatre of Namibia on Saturday for what organisers describe as the first all-Namibian comedy showcase at the venue.

Titled ‘Namibia’s Comedy Night – Laugh My Pain Away’, the event is organised by Chuckle Factory Comedy Club and will feature Axarob, Aubametax, Cara the Great, Zita, Shefi Grande, Funny Jones and Anani. A musical performance by Page Ethnix is also scheduled.

Organiser and comedian Ananias Haimbondi says the show aims to offer relief at a time when many Namibians are under strain.

“Laughter is one of the few things that cuts across age, class and background,” he says. “For one night, we want people to forget their worries, sit next to strangers and laugh together. That alone is powerful.”

The theme, ‘Laugh My Pain Away’, speaks to what organisers describe as growing social and economic pressures, including unemployment, financial stress and mental health challenges.

While primarily an entertainment event, Haimbondi says it carries a social message.

“Under the theme, the show speaks directly to the realities many Namibians face today: unemployment, financial pressure, mental health struggles and the silent weight of stress that often goes unspoken,” he says.

He adds that comedy can provide more than mere relief.

“Comedy, in this context, becomes more than humour; it becomes relief, connection and therapy,” Haimbondi says.

Beyond its social undertone, the event marks a milestone for local performers, as for years, many Namibian comedians have largely performed in smaller venues. Hosting a full local line-up at the national theatre is intended to demonstrate that home-grown comedy can draw audiences in premier spaces.

“With 470 seats available, the goal is ambitious but intentional: to #FillUpNTN with Namibian laughter,” Haimbondi says.
Doors open at 18h00 and the show begins at 19h00. Tickets cost N$300.

Organisers say they hope the night will not only entertain but also affirm the place of Namibian comedy on one of the country’s most prominent stages.
