Choppies Namibia launches graduate programme, strategic partnerships

Choppies Namibia has launched an innovative graduate programme aimed at empowering Namibian youth through skills development, employment creation, and strategic collaborations with the country’s tertiary institutions.

Speaking at the launch in Windhoek on Tuesday, the group human resources (HR) manager of Choppies in Botswana, Molatedi Kgotla, said the event aimed to launch the Choppies Namibia graduate programme and to sign two agreements with the partner institutions – the International University of Management (IUM) and Triumphant College.

“This programme is more than a recruitment initiative, it is a long term investment in the future of our business and in the future of the young men and women of this country. Through this programme, we are intentionally building the next generation of retail professionals who will drive Choppies Namibia forward for years to come,” said Kgotla.

He said the programme aims to take on 10 students from both IUM and Triumphant College every year.

He added that the event is not just a launch but also a promise that Choppies will continue to create opportunities for young people.

“This is more than just a launch, it is also a promise that Choppies will continue to create opportunities, empower local talent and contribute meaningfully to skill development in Namibia. As the group head of HR, I’m proud of what we have achieved, but even more excited about what lies ahead,” said Kgotla.

Choppies Namibia marketing and communications manager Yambeko Angala said the programme will focus on youth empowerment and address the issue of youth unemployment.

“This initiative is one of many that Choppies has began to ensure that the youth is empowered. The first thing that we aim to address is youth unemployment rate directly because we want to open many more stores in Namibia. With Namibia having 23 stores thus far, the goal is to have 27 by Vision 2030”, said Angala.

Choppies Namibia country manager Deon Bauermeister spoke on sustainable workforce as a long term impact the supermarket aims to achieve.

“Choppies aims to achieve sustainable workforce, local employment and empowerment for the youth as Choppies’ contribution towards society.”
