Chilufya is top scorer

CIVICS striker William Chilufya won the Namibia Premier League’s Goal Scorer of the Season award in dramatic fashion, after scoring seven goals in Civics’ final match against Friends.

The NPL recently confirmed that Chilufya scored seven goals in Civics’ 11-1 victory against Friends, which meant that he finished as the league’s top goal scorer on 17 goals. Eleven Arrows’ attacking midfielder Rudolph Bester had led the goal-scoring charts from the beginning of the season and seemed assured of winning the title going into the final round of matches on May 13.At that stage he was way ahead on 16 goals, followed by Oshakati City striker Cascas Angula on 11 goals and Chilufya on 10 goals.Civics however demolished an exhausted and listless Friends team 11-1 in their final match. It was Friends’ third match in five days and the Rehoboth team had been relegated to the First Division the previous day, after losing 1-0 at home to African Stars.Chilufya’s seven goals ensured that he beat Bester by a goal to the prize which carries a lucrative financial reward of N$10 000.Chilufya dismissed rumours that there was anything untoward about his feat, or that Friends had underperformed.”The whole team supported me and tried to help me.But I scored quality goals, there were no penalties, and Friends just did not have an answer for us on the day,” he said.Bester told Namibia Sport that he was disappointed to miss out on the prize.”Chilufya is a quality striker and I suppose these things can happen, but I must admit that I am disappointed. However, this will just spur me on to work harder to make sure that I win the title next season,” he said. The top six 2007 NPL goal scorers.17 William Chilufya (Civics) 16 Rudolph Bester (Eleven Arrows) 11 Cascas Angula (Oshakati City) 9 Jerome Louis (Black Africa) 8 Patrick Jagger (Orlando Pirates) 8 Pele Shilulu (Oshakati City).www.namibiasport.com.naEleven Arrows’ attacking midfielder Rudolph Bester had led the goal-scoring charts from the beginning of the season and seemed assured of winning the title going into the final round of matches on May 13.At that stage he was way ahead on 16 goals, followed by Oshakati City striker Cascas Angula on 11 goals and Chilufya on 10 goals.Civics however demolished an exhausted and listless Friends team 11-1 in their final match. The top six 2007 NPL goal scorers.17 William Chilufya (Civics) 16 Rudolph Bester (Eleven Arrows) 11 Cascas Angula (Oshakati City) 9 Jerome Louis (Black Africa) 8 Patrick Jagger (Orlando Pirates) 8 Pele Shilulu (Oshakati City).www.namibiasport.com.na
