CFC victorious at Swakop

COHEN Fistball Club (CFC) and Swakopmund Fistball Club 3 (SFC) won the A and B categories at the first fistball tournament of the year in Swakopmund over the weekend. 

In the A category, CFC won their preliminary round matches against SKW 1, SFC 1 and SKW 3. SKW 1 also qualified for the semifinals after finishing second in the group, but SFC 1 were eliminated after losing to SKW 1 with the result that they had to play out for the fifth to seventh placement matches. 

SKW 2, which consisted of players above 50 years of age, won the B category with CFC 2 coming second and SFC 2 third. 

The semifinals produced match-ups between the same teams, with CFC 1 taking on CFC 2, while SKW 1 took on SKW 2. 

CFC 1 comfortably beat their second team 2-0, but there was an upset in the second semifinal as SKW 2 beat SKW 1 2-0. 

In the final however, SKW 2 were no match for CFC 1 who won the match 3-0 to clinch the trophy. 

In the B category, SKW 5 claimed the group victory ahead of SFC 3, CFC 3 and SKW 4. In the first semi-final, SKW 5 prevailed against CFC 3, while SFC 3 won the second semi-final match 2-0 against SKW 4. 

In the final, SFC 3 beat SKW 5 3-1 to clinch the title. 

In the u13 category, CFC won the title with two wins over SFC A and SFC B.

Ilo Löhnert was named youth player of the day while Ingo Ahrens of SKW 2 was crowned the adult player of the day.

The next fistball dates are the Old Crocks tournaments on 12 April at SKW and a week later on 19 April at SFC. Sixteen of the 23 registered teams will come from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the USA.
