Central bank announces bursaries

The Bank of Namibia has allocated seven bursaries to undergraduate and post-graduate students.

The bursaries were granted to economics, mathematics, statistics and education students pursuing degrees at both Namibian and South African universities.

Central bank governor Ebson Uanguta at an event in Windhoek on Monday told the students it is up to them to work, study and pass.

“Education remains the most reliable equaliser available to any society.

“I have never seen something that is able to equalise people more than education, particularly when it is education and then it is followed by the opportunities that are created.

“It does not eliminate quality, but it reduces the permanency of inequality.

“Education allows discipline and competence in our way of life,” the governor said.

A 2025 bursary scheme holder and intern at the bank, data science final-year student Adam Saal said education is a matter of embracing chaos.

He called on other students to work hard and make connections.
